WEEKEND TO END BREAST CANCER
The weekend to end breast cancer is an annual event held in several cities in Canada, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Millions of people attend this event every year raising millions of dollars towards researching the cure to erasing the horrible disease. Breast cancer is diagnosed in one out of nine Canadian women every year and finding a cure for the disease is a major concern and on the minds of many people around the world.
The weekend to treat breast cancer is not on the same weekends for every city. If you are interested in joining the weekend to treat breast cancer you can do so by logging on to their website at www.endcancer.ca or by calling (604)-684-WALK (9255). This event is a 60-kilometer walk, which is the equivalent of 38 miles and spans across the entire weekend. The starting point of the walk depends to which city you decide to join the weekend to treat breast cancer.
In Vancouver, the event is September 5th-7th. The charities from this event go to the BC Foundation benefiting breast cancer research, which is an independent charitable organization. The event in Calgary is July 25th-27th and benefits the Alberta Cancer Foundation. The Alberta Cancer Foundation spends millions of dollars each year researching for the cure of breast cancer. The weekend to end breast cancer in Edmonton is August 8th-10th and the monies raised from the Edmonton sponsors go toward the Alberta Cancer Foundation. The Manitoba event raised almost $6 million in charities from the weekend to treat breast cancer in the past two years and is contemplating on not having another event. They might not continue the walk this year, so if you were interested in the walk, maybe another city is close to you that you can join. The Toronto walk is from September 5th — 7th and the money raised goes towards The Princess Margaret, which is the leading cancer research hospital. They are dedicated to finding breakthrough initiatives directly impacting and benefiting patients and the families. The Ottawa walk is June 6th — 8th and benefits the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. The Montreal Walk to treat breast cancer is August 22nd — 24th and the charities go toward the Jewish General Hospital.
The Walk to treat breast cancer is sponsored by thousands of organizations; a few are Frito Lay, CIBC, TVA, CTV, Home Depot, Jean Country, and more.
